I can't stand sitting still. I must by hyperactive. It's a good thing I have a job where I'm out and about--going into different schools and classrooms. If I want to move around, I can. My job has plenty of variety too. At home there's always plenty to do to. In fact, there's not enough time for all the projects I'd like to do.
I also hate to wait. Whenever I know I will have to be waiting for something, I try to be prepared with a good book. But sometimes I find myself in a doctor's office or car repair waiting room with nothing. If there are magazines, I look through them, but the magazines are usually about cars or sports or new mothers. And the television is usually turned down so low it can't be heard.
I'm sorry to Adam for the time I actually got up and paced back and forth in a waiting room while we waited for an estimate on a car repair. Fortunately no one else was in the waiting room. So why the long wait? Beats me.
When my kids were little, we'd make up games in waiting rooms. Guessing games were fun, but one of my favorites was Go Fish. No, we didn't make up the game...just the way we played it. You don't need cards to play. You just make up your own hand--decide what colors you have. Then when your opponent asks for one, you give it to him if you have it and remember what colors you have left. If you have to go fish, you select what color the card is, but can't select one to match any colors you already have in your hand. It's kind of challenging remembering your cards and your matches, but it works. Sometimes we played it over and over again while waiting.
I've decided there's another mindless thing I could be prepared to do in waiting rooms--Sudoku. Sometimes I grab the newspaper, if there is one, and if someone hasn't already done it, I complete the Sudoku challenge. I've decided that I can just keep an empty Sudoku puzzle folded up in my wallet in case I ever come up empty handed in a waiting room. This should help keep me from going crazy when I forget to bring a good book.
